PRESENTATION OF BOOKS BY ALEKSANDRA JOVANOVIĆ

At this year's FEP, we present two books by dramaturge and writer Aleksandra Jovanović, the mentor of the Youth Jury.

"Ovo nije ljubavni roman" (This is Not a Love Story) is a fun, honest, and realistically grounded novel that gives voice to teenage dreams but places them within a familiar and often frustrating reality. We follow several important months in the life of Ljubica, a high-school student from a small town who loves watching romantic films and dreams of possible love scenarios, while in reality she has not even had her first kiss. Together with her, we discover that desire is what is true in every love story: the desire for love to be real, for romance to be possible, and to understand someone the way we have always imagined. The book was illustrated by Katja Klimova.

"Lena i puž" (Lena and the Snail) is an atypical, unusual picture book whose very theme is change, or more precisely, moving house, told from the perspective of the child herself. Lena moves from a village to the city and says goodbye to the mountains and to the snail from her garden, but then she changes her mind and decides on a bit of mischief: she chooses to secretly carry the snail, hidden in a box, to the city apartment. Through dialogue and illustrations without any accompanying explanations, readers are drawn directly into the world of this story, moving together with Lena and hiding the snail along with her. The picture book shows children that they are not alone in their experience, and that moving can be an adventure we embark on with curiosity. The illustrations are by Jakša Lakićević, winner of the ULUPUDS Award for best young illustrator.
